Other
Education links
Specialist Librarians based in community libraries work closely
with schools to promote local libraries through class visits,
promotional talks and library
skills sessions. The annual reading game and Carnegie shadowing
provides many opportunities for libraries and schools to work
together to promote libraries and encourage reading skills and
a love of reading. |
Summer
Reading game
Takes place during the summer with around 10,000 children taking
part every year ensuring that reading skills are maintained
and developed during the school holidays. Prizes along the way
encourage more reading and fun. |
 |
The
Carnegie and Greenaway Shadowing Scheme
Annual event held in partnership with many Leeds High schools.
Groups of children read the shortlisted books for this major
children's book award and then come together in the Central
library to discuss them and vote for their favourite. The results
are forwarded to the Library Association, along with those from
the rest of the country and a final decision is made.
