Dear Colleagues & Pupils

Picture from Shakespeare Primary SchoolWe want all schools here in Leeds to be good schools, improving schools and inclusive schools. Schools working at the heart of their communities to ensure that every child and every young person is succesful and high achieving.

The Stephen Lawrence Educational Award brings together a partnership between the Race Equality Advisory Forum, Leeds City Council Equal Opportunities Unit, Education Leeds and schools. It is an opportunity to celebrate and recognise the work undertaken by Leeds schools as we all work to become more inclusive. Next year we are aiming to introduce a chartermark for Race Equality and will invite schools to participate in it's development in partnership with community representatives from the Race Equality Advisory Forum.

Picture from Shakespeare Primary SchoolThis is the third year of the Stephen Lawrence Award which was established by Leeds City Council Race Equality Advisory Form in 1999/2000 to further encourage schools to promote Race Equality and share good practice. Previous winners have included Shakespeare Primary, St Peters C of E Primary, Little London Primary and Parkland Girls High.

To enter for the award, schools are invited to submit a portfolio of evidence which demonstrates implementation of Race Equality policies in accordance with the 10 point award criteria. Details of the criteria and further guidance can be found using the side menu.

I hope you will take this opportunity to participate in the Stephen Lawrence Award.

Yours sincerely

Chris Edwards
Chief Executive
