Commission for Racial Equality
is a publicly funded, non-governmental body set up under the Race Relations
Act 1976 to tackle racial discrimination and promote racial equality. For further

Learning for All :Standards for Racial Equality
in Schools were developed by the Commission for Race Equality (CRE) to help
schools meet their statutory obligations under the Race Relation (Amendment)
Act 2000. The Learning for All Standards draws on best practice nationally and
provides practical guidance to Headteachers, Senior Managers and Governors.
Learning For All: Standards for Racial Equality in Schools
The
Stephen Lawrence Education Award will provide evidence of a schools commitment
to implementation of the CRE
Standard and Code of Practice.
The Stephen Lawrence Inquiry Report stressed that education has a fundamental role to play in eliminating racism and promoting and valuing racial diversity. By working towards the Standards schools will ensure that they are implementing the recommendations put forward in the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry Report, fulfilling the requirements of the National Curriculum, of OfSTED and Estyn inspections.
The Stephen Lawrence Education Award will provide evidence of a school's commitment to implementation of the CRE Standard and Code of Practice. The Standards are organised within seven areas:
