Products & Services: Voice Over IP: Introduction
Voice over IP (VoIP) is a new telephone system which uses the Star Network as a carrier for telephone calls. This exciting system enables local calls between schools, and between the school and the City Council to be FREE.
With over 30 schools and 500 phones now in use across Leeds. Libraries, museums and other institutions are also beginning to take up the service, meaning that calls to such organisations would also be free. This could potentially save schools thousands of pounds on their annual telephone bill.
To take advantage of FREE calls via VoIP, schools connected to the Star Network will need to purchase VoIP telephone(s) or an adapter for their existing telephone. We would also need to undertake a survey to ensure that the school network core equipment is suitable and to invest in remedial upgrade, where appropriate.
