Products & Services: Star Network

The Star Network is an exciting new initiative by the Leeds Learning Network which will enable your school to meet DfES broadband targets. The Star Network connects all Leeds Schools, the City Council and Education Leeds together, enabling secure, reliable and high-speed access to the Internet and a range of additional IT services. Star enables your school to meet and exceed Government targets by providing a symmetric 10Mbps broadband connection and is a secure, reliable way of connecting to the NEN. The DfES requires that all schools have a symmetric broadband connection with a minimum of 2Mbps for primary schools and 8Mbps for secondary schools and be connected to the National Education Network (NEN) by August 2006.

Star has 15 area hub sites and currently 252 schools are connected. We are committed to meeting the DfES target and are well ahead of schedule.

Star is over 20 times faster than ADSL and 80 times faster than ISDN and is highly suitable for accessing media-rich collaborative material on the NEN including movies, interactive sites, graphics and sounds. Star is future proof and can be upgraded to provide greater bandwidth as and when this becomes necessary.

Star is excellent value for money and we aim to reduce the cost every year, whilst simultaneously increasing the services we provide.

Additional Benefits of Star

The Star Network also provides a wealth of other IT services that can save your school time and money. These include:
