What is the Remote Access Service?

The Remote Access Service is a secure tunnel through the Internet that will enable a user to have secure access to a target network/s to implement remote tasks. The Remote Access Service uses encryption and other security mechanisms to ensure that only authorised users can access the network and that the data cannot be intercepted.

Who Can Use the Service?

Third party suppliers (e.g. your network maintainer)
ICT technicians or network administrators to enable flexible working from home or other sites and out of hours service

What Are The Benefits?

Save time and money associated with third party suppliers visiting the school site
Provide staff with flexible working conditions/hours and the ability to work from home
Secure service only accessible by authorised users

Prices

Initial set up cost of £600 (including secure ID token and BT set up) for one user and one site
Prices on application for additional users and sites
£100 per year service cost (includes replacement of secure ID token when license expires)
Leeds Learning Network do not provide insurance for the secure ID token and customers are liable for replacing lost or damaged tokens

Access

With the exception of essential maintenance periods, hours of access are unrestricted, with no restrictions on the amount of time using the Remote Access Service. Where possible we will provide prior notice in good time and try to minimise actual outage times.

Support

Leeds Learning Network will provide telephone support to assist customers using the service between the core hours of 8am-5.30pm Monday to Friday
We provide support documents to guide customers with how to install and use the service
The customer is responsible for physical installation of the service and the correct configuration of the target network/s

What Equipment Do I Need?

To experience optimal performance, we recommend that users are connected to the broadband Star Network. You will need a suitable PC and software will be provided.
